This is what the finished splice should look like.

To test the splice resistance a current of 75.7 amps1 was sent through two similar lengths of cable, one with a splice and one without. The voltage drop across the two was measured using a Fluke 8842A multimeter, accurate to 5 digits on the millivolt scale.

(6.8mv/75.7)-(6.4mv/75.7) ~ 5 x10-6 ohms (from the average of many measurements).

1. The seemingly odd number 75.7 was used because the amp meter was recalibrated after testing and found to be reading 50 amps at an actual value of 75.7
